Workshops
Here's a subtitle for this pageJournaling for Passion, Clarity, & Purpose
This six-week journey is for beginners or avid journal-keepers. Students are encouraged to maintain a practice of daily writing (hand-written or typed) to identify and explore daily thoughts, feelings, judgments, and opinions. While several techniques are explored, emphasis is placed on stream-of-consciousness journaling, while learning to identify and thank the inner critic. Each week, students receive prompts and encouragement to (re)discover and explore what matters most, becoming experts in noticing the ordinary and mundane for depth and insight. Topics covered: Forgiveness, courage, clarity, and more. The journal is a perfect place to vent, troubleshoot, plan, dream, and connect with our higher selves, stepping through the doorway to our transformation and personal growth.
Course Materials:
A pen, a notebook, the willingness to get real with yourself, and become familiar with your “inner committee” are the only requirements for this course. Nathan, your journaling coach, will also recommend additional resources, reading materials, tips, and references to enrich your journey. A calendar of weekly group coaching sessions is made available so you can get up-close and personal training. A private page on Facebook is also available for those who want a bulletin board or “journaling circle” to communicate with others in the course.
Course Price: Only $197
Bring a friend! The course is even more fantastic with friends and family. Email Nathan about group rates.
Dream Journaling & Lucid Dreaming
This four-week workshop is for three audiences: (1) those who do not remember their dreams once awakened, but want to learn how, (2) those who want to understand their dreams for greater self-awareness and personal growth, and (3) those who want to learn how to induce their favorite dreams, and explore lucid dreaming. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to keep a daily (or nightly!) journaling habit by writing out their dreams in detail. During weekly sessions, journaling coach Nathan Ohren teaches techniques for capturing, befriending, and understanding even the strangest of dreams. Why does your fourth grade teacher show up in a scene when you are late for work because elephants are walking across the freeway offramp? If dreams are the messages from our subconscious mind, why not learn how to decipher and interpret them? And, is it really possible to alter the content of your dreams by teaching yourself to become aware when you are in the middle of a dream?
Course Materials
A pen, a notebook, and a “Dream Totem” are the only requirements for this course. (We’ll discuss the Totem in our first session together.) If you’re a person who doesn’t usually remember your dreams, you’ll enjoy the techniques shared!
In addition to daily journaling, you will be encouraged to explore fun homework assignments, tips, “reality tests”, and exercises to enrich the awareness of your dream life. A private page on Facebook is also available for those who want a bulletin board or “journaling circle” to communicate with others who share this interest.
Journal to the Self
The Journal to the Self® workshop is a 12-hour course on how to keep a journal for personal growth, creative expression and life enrichment. It was created in 1985 by Kathleen Adams LPC, PTR, Director of the Center for Journal Therapy, Inc., and internationally known pioneer and expert in the power of writing to heal. The early years of the workshop formed the research base for Kathleen Adams’ best-selling book, Journal to the Self. Nearly 100,000 people around the globe have learned this easy, effective, empowering model of journal keeping through the Journal to the Self method. The workshop is adaptable to nearly any population, across the life span, and to nearly any special interest group. It is now taught by a network of Certified Instructors throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and Pacifica. I am now certified and ready to teach this course. If you’d like more information about the JTTS instructor certification program, please contact me. This is a six-session program, beginning April 6th, 2014, and held through conference calls on Sunday nights. We skip Easter and Mother’s Day, and complete our course together in the last Sunday of May. The simple, low-cost tuition also includes a physical workbook that we use together during our 2-hour conference call sessions.

Testimonial from past student: “I have started journals countless times only to abandon them in time, leaving me feeling so defeated. This time there was a real structure, and I was not alone in the process. In Nathan’s course, I was able to expand my journaling, being complete every morning and engaged more fully in the rest of my daily activities. The result I created was productivity and vitality. This was grounding for me during a hectic time of transition. Nathan’s course facilitated a real experience of sacredness and freedom.” – Sylvia Stratford, Fresno, CA
